The Other Side of Meat

(La Otra Cara De La Carne)

A campaign to expose the systematic abuse behind animal farming in Chile. Every day, millions of farmed animals in Chile live and die in conditions hidden from the public eye: untreated wounds, extreme confinement, lack of veterinary care, and cruel practices that have become the norm — all enabled by weak regulation and lack of enforcement.

#LaOtraCaraDeLaCarne ("The Other Side of Meat") is a campaign by Animal Law Focus that aims to reveal the truth the meat industry doesn’t want you to see.

We are exposing the suffering behind animal farming and demanding urgent regulatory reform.

What are we fighting for?

📸 To shine a light on the daily suffering of animals through real images from farms and slaughterhouses in Chile.

⚖️ To call for strong, enforceable animal welfare laws and oversight.

📢 To mobilise public pressure on companies, authorities, and decision-makers.

🤝 To build a network of activists, professionals, and organisations committed to ending cruelty.

Why People is Signing our Petition

‘It is important to me to protect animals in any way possible; the conditions of the industry in Chile are unacceptable.’

— G.M., 29 March

‘It is a crime that should be prosecuted and punished by law.’

— M.C., 6 April

‘Non-human animals are sentient beings, endowed with a central nervous system. The way in which the livestock industry abuses them is cruel and horrifying; no society that claims to be progressive would accept this.’

— C.B., 8 April

‘We demand dignity and an end to the torture of animals that are only bred to be born and exploited in the most vile and painful ways, with no respect for their existence.’

— D.M., 5 April

‘Institutionalised cruelty is the most abhorrent form of business at the expense of the indescribable suffering of non-human animals, who have become the property of individuals and companies for profit from their lives! Enough is enough!’

— M.M., 5 April

‘I am signing because animals do not deserve to be mistreated and kept in appalling conditions, only to suffer a violent and merciless death.’

— M.M., 8 April

‘I feel helpless in the face of so much animal suffering. The least we can do is sign petitions like this one.’

Y.C., 15 April

‘All sentient beings deserve to live their lives without being slaves.’

O.L., 23 de abril

We don't want any more animal abuse. The lives of non-human animals do not belong to us. This is supremacy. We are paying for the slavery and death of innocent beings.’

C.V., 2 April

Farm animals give up their lives so humans can eat them. The least we can do is show them respect, care, concern. ANIMALS GIVE UP THEIR LIVES!!!! How horrible that the Chilean government does not take responsibility; create laws that farm animals are treated with compassion. The fact remains that in Chile, thousands of farm animals are subjected every day to a level of cruelty that should be unacceptable in any so-called just society. I urge the Chilean govt. to evolve, change, develop as an ethical humane country. (…) What does this say about Chile? The government needs to get strict - ordering the definitive closure of companies that repeatedly fail to comply with animal welfare standards and to work with SAG to promote regulatory reforms that ensure truly enforceable standards and effective sanction mechanisms. Stronger animal welfare legislation is a MUST."
